Sunnyside Country School
The Sunnyside School, built in 1893, was one of the many country schools that once dotted rural Fremont County, Iowa. In 1969, the Fremont County Farm Bureau Women purchased the one room schoolhouse which was located west of Waubonsie State Park on Bluff Road south of Highway 2. It was moved to the museum’s complex to be preserved and displayed. It looks as it did when children attended it with the old wooden desks and inkwells, the stove that kept students warm, the recitation bench and other items. It is open for special events at the museum, for school tours, or by appointment. Call 712-374-3248 or email FremontCountyHistorical@gmail.com to arrange a tour.
